In March 2008, KUNG Chi Shing set up the Kung Music Workshop to discover and nurture new music talents and to bring music to new audiences outside of established formats, venues and channels.
Kung Music Workshop (KMW) is a pioneer organisation in Hong Kong that curate concerts and performances comprise different genres of music and arts at different venues, including non-traditional concert locations. Our cross-disciplinary and cross-genre performances not only introduce and educate various arts forms to the audience; it creates a special vibe and platform for the birth of many quality creative arts and collaborations. Moreover, We provide platforms for established and emerging artists to present their work, organise exchange programs for international artists to share their experience with Hong Kong artists and audiences and vice versa, we hope to bring our artists to the international arts scene.
Since May 2009, KUNG started to organise free outdoor concerts and has since curated more than 150 concerts in various locations with great success. May, 2012 to present – the monthly free Blue House concert series [co-presented with Hong Kong House of Stories]
December, 2012 – 2-day free outdoor concert at West Kowloon Cultural District’s ‘Freespace Fest’
2014 – Present – KMW provides music classes for beginners and intermediate musicians with professional musicians and artists. We also curate concerts and workshops at local schools and community centers. We bring quality music education to the community and to those who cannot afford the tuition.
These important events and concerts not only nurture musicians and performers and create a platform for emerging artist, they also successfully attract audiences from all over Hong Kong and tourists; and arouse them to understand Hong Kong music and concert in a fresh new way.
